Corporate Social Responsibility

In the social realm, South Malaysia Industries Berhad (SMIB) strives to not just engage with its employees, customers, and business partners, but also to foster high quality working relationship with local authorities, joint venture partners, suppliers, contractors, as well as agencies to create and deliver sustainable value to all its stakeholders.

The Group supervises the safety conduct of its operations through the Operational Safety and Health (“OSHA”) committee, set up individually for both the Property and Wire Manufacturing Divisions. OSHA meetings are held periodically to report and discuss any safety and health related risks, including formulation of action plans, if required.

SMIB also emphasises on safety at workplace, providing employees with relevant personal protective equipment and periodic safety trainings to instil safety awareness. There were no major incidents recorded on work-related injuries or fatalities for the financial year ended 31 December 2017. The Group recognises the impact it may cause to the surrounding community of the property project sites.

As such, the Group has undertaken various efforts to minimize the impact, including not having night lights shone at the surrounding residences, constant reminders to truck drivers to reduce and limit the speed of their vehicles and notice boards set up which includes the contact numbers of project managers to allow complaints, if any, to be appropriately channelled and attended to.
